The Power of Association

"For where two or three are gathered in My name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them."

I understood early that what Christ meant was not merely a physical gathering. He meant when people are gathered with the intent and purpose of fellowshipping with him.

It is possible that not everyone
that comes to church comes to seek God. They might come for their own personal reasons. But here Christ is talking about a people whose gathering is for him. They might not even have come to pray, but because their purpose ofgathering is him, he is among them. I'll show you an example from the Bible.

John 20: 19 "So when it was evening on that same day, the first day of the week, though the disciples were [meeting] behind barred doors for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them, and said, 'Peace to you.'"

Fear bought these men together but because it was in His Name, He was found in their midst.

Now to the topic of discussion,

What could be so important as to make Jesus come down?

The purpose of the gathering.

But you'll agree with me that the type of people gathering will determine the purpose for gathering.

If occult people gather, you won't say they are coming to praise God.

I know of times when I gather with my friends just to talk, maybe about a recent happening in the church or a particular revelation from a scripture, before long, we are exchanging ideas, seeing new things. We get so excited we begin to worship. At the end of the day, we are leaving blessed.

As a Christian, how many times in your circle of friends have you gathered to spend time with God?

We really need to start evaluating the people we keep around us.

Pro 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron,
So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion]."

From time to time, for an iron to produce effective results, there has to be a sharpening.

The friction (learning process) might be unpleasant but you'll come out with a sharper insight.

If you want to grow in Christ, if you want to grow in life, be surrounded by the right people and the right information.

Grace to you
