It's Not Just About Me

Hello! Hope you had a really fabulous weekend. Our discussion today is going to be about our salvation and what God requires of us afterwards.

God is not just concerned about your salvation only. He wants your household too.
The Lord speaks clearly of this throughout scriptures. Let’s take a look at Jesus. His mother and brethren (siblings) became disciples too. They were even with the brethren in the upper room on the day of Pentecost. Acts 1:14 “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.”

Another example is that of James and John. They did not only seek the Lord, their mother joined in the pursuit. Matt 20:20 “Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.”

Cornelius was another man who sought the salvation of his household too. Acts 10:1 “There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2) a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house,” And in vs. 24 when Peter was coming, see what he did, 24) “And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.”. Talk about evangelism!

What about job, he continually interceded for his children. (Job 1:5). You can add more examples in the comment box.

Now to the women! Mary Magdalene comes first. We heard of her first , how she had seven devils cast out of her and followed Jesus everywhere. Her siblings later came along too; Martha and Lazarus. These were one of the few individuals that the Bible actually records that Christ loved. They became very dear to him.

Next is Lydia. Acts 16:14 "And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. 15)And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.” It wasn’t just her, but her household.

This was the testimony of Abraham. Gen. 18:19 “For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.” This was what brought about the fulfilment of God’s promise to him.

Not just me, but my household. This is the first step after you get saved. Even before you start affecting lives outside. As a man and husband, the responsibility is even more on you to carry your whole household along. As a woman and wife, you're not left out of the picture too. In continual prayer and supplication for them, and in exhibiting godly characters such as love and respect towards them, you'll win them over to Christ.
